Reconstitution math, explained carefully

The calculation is a sequence of unit conversions. Each step depends on accurate values supplied by the user; none of the steps determines what dose or diluent is appropriate.

Start a calculation →

Step 1: normalize the dose unit

If a confirmed dose is entered in micrograms, divide by 1,000 to express it in milligrams before combining it with a concentration expressed in mg/mL.

dose (mg) = dose (mcg) ÷ 1,000

Step 2: calculate concentration

concentration (mg/mL) = vial amount (mg) ÷ liquid volume (mL)

Step 3: calculate the draw volume

draw volume (mL) = confirmed dose (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL)

Step 4: convert milliliters to a U-100 scale

Always compare the result with the original labels and instructions. Stop if any value, unit, concentration, or device marking is uncertain.

U-100 units = draw volume (mL) × 100
